Daddy Long-Legs
Day Terrors (The Harrow Press) Horror Anthology/Edited by Kfir Luzzatto & Dru Pagliassotti
Supernatural terror that takes place in broad daylight? Harder than you might imagine...no hiding in dusty attics, damp cellars or night-time forests, place your creation under the blinding light of the sun and keep it scary. Had to have a swing at this one and came up with a story - Daddy Long-Legs - that I'm extremely proud of. I think the 'terrifying thing' in this one is unique and fascinating, and hope others do too.

Amy-Lou's Ice-Cream Parlor
Night Terrors (Blood Bound Books) Horror Anthology/Edited by Theresa Dillon & Marc Ciccarone
The first horror story I started was inspired by a strange little cafe-cum-thrift store in the small town I now live in – just the store itself, not the people as they are all quite lovely! That story started out as a 1000 word flash piece before developing into a true short with a new main character, a new ending and far more information. I’m delighted it has a home in this anthology with BBB.
Extract: Well, apart from the voice thing.
She had been hearing the strange voice in her head for a while now, and it scared her, a lot, but it didn’t diminish her abilities as a great Mom. She reckoned it was a side effect of the awful migraines she got quite frequently. Hopefully nothing more serious than that. A weird chemical kick from her prescription sleeping pills, perhaps, or a spark in the brain caused by codeine overuse, something simple and everyday like that. She bet a lot of people suffered from similar afflictions and just didn’t talk about it.
‘WRITES NOT TALKS’
Gwen heard the familiar voice again and shook it out of her head. It always came echoing from what felt like the depths of her mind, like a trapped miner shouting for help from down in the coal-pits to the clear air far above.

All Your Pretty Things
Love Kills:My Bloody Valentine (Pill Hill Press) Horror Anthology/Edited by Jessy Marie Roberts
A book for the evil ex(s) in your life – stories of love turned horrific. Mine chronicles the collapse of a married man’s mind in the face of seemingly innocuous relationship strains. Brutal, mean-spirited and nasty.
Extract: 'Next he took a long, hot shower, scrubbing his skin until it was red and sore. After drying off vigorously in front of the mirror he set out his shaving supplies, alongside the framed photo of Megan as a cheerleader, and lathered his face and neck, scraping the tight skin until he was smooth and pink. He continued to lather and shave himself all the way down his body, from his chest to his crotch, his arms and his legs, even the tiny hairs on his toes. When this was complete he used an electric razor to buzz all the hair from his head until his scalp shone white beneath the bright vanity lights. Finally he removed his eyebrows with the clippers and stared at himself in the mirror. David didn’t recognize himself at all, but he liked the new man-thing he had become. He grinned and bared his teeth at his reflection. It felt like going home.'

That Maternal Instinct
Night Chills Magazine Vol. 1 (Black Matrix Publishing) Horror Magazine/Edited by Guy Kenyon
A brand new horror magazine based in Oregon from Black Matrix. My submission is set in a coastal town in North Carolina and involves disappearing babies and a lighthouse keeper who refuses to retire. Mwaha, and indeed, ha!
Extract: 'Up and to her right stood the lighthouse on the cliffs; black and white circles alternated up the tower, although the white was looking dirty, unpainted in years. At the top, on the outer walkway, she spotted a figure looking out across the ocean. Long dark coat, a dark hat. She shivered again, pulled her stare away from whom she assumed was the crazy old keeper just in case he returned it. That thought scared her almost as much as the water behind her. The next time she slept Kensey had nightmares. She dreamt of tiny babies tied in pink bows crying and screaming as they floated in a black ocean, alone in the night. In the distance a lighthouse beam blinked on and swept across them. She woke up soaking in sweat and could smell the warm salt on her skin.'
